Elvis

...full name Foxtail Farm's Elvis

We realized very early that we had acquired a top quality jack, both in conformation and disposition. Elvis was easy to work with and learned all the basics very quickly. In addition to being shown in a number of shows in California and Oregon, he started his breeding career at two years old. His first few foals were just beautiful and we delighted in getting to know how loving these donkey babies are from the minute they are born. He has continued to produce good quality, loving foals since.

Elvis was campaigned at Halter, Trail, In-Hand Jumping, Coon Jumping, and excelled in Driving, both in the Green and Open Divisions. Driving classes included Pleasure Driving, Reinsmanship, and Barrel Racing, Keyhole, and Pole Bending timed events. He earned High Point Championships at several shows and always had his cheering section chanting “Elvis, Elvis” to urge him on, especially in the Coon Jumping competition where he excelled.

Elvis has visited retirement homes, participated in many parades, was ridden by our granddaughter in open shows, and has traveled up and down the coast many times from California to Oregon. He is still active in a local club, the Brass Oak Driving Society, where we have competed in Driven Dressage and other clinics put on by the club. He is the only donkey member in the club; all the others are horses of all sizes and ponies. Some horses are puzzled by his looks (i.e. those ‘ears’), others want him as their best friend.

Please enjoy his photos from the early days!
